The LCD-7 is always on

As on the 4.3 inch, the backlight has no levels, so the LCD-7 has no brightness, standby or night settings. A small modification gives it dimming: a wire from the backlight pad to GPIO6 on the sensor connector or GPIO16 on the RS485 connector, and a few lines in Override YAML. The repository's WAVESHARE7.md has the lines. Reported working on board revision 1.1.

The LCD-7B

Dims through its expander chip and keeps its enable line high, so dark standby is simply the darkest level and the board never restarts on waking. Building its firmware yourself needs ESPHome 2026.7.0 or newer. Reported working on the glass by a community member.

Good to know

The LCD-7 logs over its native USB connector; the LCD-7B has one USB-C port with a serial chip.
