About Tessera
Tessera is made by Max, a maker with an eye for design, in his spare time. The aim is a screen that looks good and that the whole family uses without a thought for the technology behind it. The website tells where the name comes from.
Tessera and Tesserae
Same word, different screens. Tesserae (tesserae.ink) is a separate open-source project for e-ink dashboards in Home Assistant. Tessera is for colour LCD touch screens.
Free and open source
The screen firmware and the app are free under the GNU AGPL v3 licence. The code is on GitHub: read it, change it, report a problem or help improve it. Tessera is an independent project, built with ESPHome, and not affiliated with Home Assistant.
Help
- Troubleshooting and Questions in this manual.
- Issues on GitHub for a bug or an idea.
- The community page: tell others which screen you have and what works. It helps everyone pick a screen that works.
Improving this manual
Every page has Edit this page at the bottom. Improve this manual explains how a change gets in.
Translating
The screens and the editor speak nine languages. Most of them were drafted and still wait for a native speaker to read them: the language list in Tessera marks those. A translation is one file; TRANSLATING.md explains how to send one.
For developers
The repository's docs folder holds the recipes for changing the code: adding a board, an entity type or a setting, the grid and the fonts, the releases.
Thanks
