Buying

Search for ESP32-2432S028. Boards that look the same carry different display chips: most an ILI9341, some an ST7789V, a few an ILI9342. You can't see it from the outside; the wizard asks, and a garbled picture means the other one.

Setting up

  • Display controller under New screen: take the first one. If the picture is noise or garbled, install again with the other. For an ILI9342 choose the board "CYD ESP32-2432S028 ILI9342", which is experimental.
  • Which way will it hang? Lying down gives six tiles, standing up four.
  • The first start shows the touch calibration: tap the five crosshairs three times each.

Good to know

  • Most CYDs have a CH340 USB chip; a computer may need its driver to install from the browser.
  • The RGB light on the back is a light entity of the screen in Home Assistant.
  • The CYD has no Wi-Fi hotspot for a wrong password: install it again over USB instead.
  • The CYD's flash is nearly full, which is why it misses the pictures and the media library. The history graphs work.
  • A 3D-printable mount for the desk, under a desk or on the wall is linked from the repository's README.
