Change WIFI or Multi Wifi

What would you like to add

I've an urgent issue and a request - the issue is I can't see how to change WIFI on a screen I've made in one room and need to move the device to another room

My request is to handle multiple WIFIs like ESPHOME does - in my ESPHOME projects normally - my secrets file has several ssids - ssid, ssid2, ssid3 etc and my projects will move to the relevant SSID (cavehome, SSIDS are good for one room only)

How this relates to Home Assistant

Specific to ESPHOME

Thanks Peter, good news: you can do both today, no update needed.

ESP Screens only writes a screen's own ESPHome YAML once, when you install it. After that it leaves the Wi-Fi part alone, so you can edit it like any other ESPHome device. (The Override YAML in ESP Screens won't take wifi:, so do this in the ESPHome Device Builder or the File editor.)

1. Add the extra networks to secrets.yaml:

wifi_ssid: "..."
wifi_password: "..."
wifi_ssid2: "..."
wifi_password2: "..."

2. In the screen's own YAML, replace the ssid: and password: lines with a networks: list:

wifi:
  networks:
    - ssid: !secret wifi_ssid
      password: !secret wifi_password
    - ssid: !secret wifi_ssid2
      password: !secret wifi_password2
  power_save_mode: none

Keep anything else that is already under wifi:. ESPHome then connects to whichever listed network it can see, just like your other ESPHome projects.

3. Install wirelessly (OTA) while the screen is still in its current room, then move it. If it moves first and can't reach any network it knows, you'll need USB to flash it.

I checked this against ESPHome 2026.9.0 with the packages from main: the config validates with both networks in it. ESP Screens keeps working with the screen as before, and later releases won't overwrite your networks: list.

I'll close this one, but feel free to reopen if anything doesn't behave.

A follow-up now that 0.4.32 is out: New screen can take another Wi-Fi name and password when Wi-Fi is already set up (Another network). They go into ESPHome's secrets.yaml, so screens you already have take the new network at their next update. And a screen that cannot reach its Wi-Fi now says so on its glass: a board with a fallback hotspot shows the hotspot's name and password to join from a phone, a board without one (such as the CYD) says what to check. Several networks at once, as in your ESPHome projects, still goes through the screen's own YAML as described above.

Well done - 2 days ago I almost became a convert to an alternative way to control these displays - espscreen - but as of right now you've won me over. My 4" display has 2 pages and as of this afternoon has just replaced my Sonoff NSPANEL (original - modified) as the bedside controller. It's even a perfect fit for the Sonoff desk cases. I love the full integration into Home Assistant instead of guessing the entities. The one thing that bugged me a bit was the 3*3 panel layout - far too much space for just temperature - then ChatGPT reminded me I can make template entities containing a much info as will fit into your panels :-) MARVELLOUS. I LOVE it.
