Custom action on tap

gcorgnetSuggested this wish ·

Hi, I wish we could set a specific action on tap, for example, when taping a cover, we should be able to just call cover.toggle on the entity, instead of having to bring up the control screen.

Thanks for the request! This is in 0.2.67. Under On tap, a cover now has On / off: Home Assistant's cover.toggle, so a tap opens or closes it and stops it while it moves. Perform action goes further: pick any action Home Assistant offers for that entity, with its fields, such as Set cover position at 50. Holding the tile still opens the control card. Update the app, then press Update on the screen for firmware 0.2.58.

Thanks for the quick turaround. I've updated the app and flashed the new firmware to 0.2.58 but somehow still don't have an option for setting tap action.

I can live with it since I'll be using this in double width and now have an option to add direct control, which is nice but I wanted to flag that this didn't seem to work.

Cheers

Thanks for checking, and for the screenshot: that helped. Your firmware is 0.2.58, so the add-on did update, but the page in your browser is still the editor from before 0.2.67. Since 0.2.67 the On tap row always has Perform action, and On / off for a cover. The three choices you see are the old row.

Please close the ESP Screens tab and open it again from the sidebar (or reload it). An open tab keeps running the old page after an add-on update; I'll make the editor reload itself when the add-on changes version, so this can't happen again.

If you still see only three choices after a reload, two things would help me:

  • which browser or app you open it in (the Home Assistant companion app, Safari, Chrome, ...)
  • the add-on version under Settings → Add-ons → ESP Screens

Cheers!

I've even "cleared cache and hard reloaded" but can still only see the same "on tap" options for my cover. I'm on Chrome on Windows The add-on version is 0.2.69 Cheers

Thanks, that rules out the browser, so my first answer was wrong. I checked the files on GitHub main and in each release tag: the Perform action choice is in the editor script of 0.2.67, 0.2.68 and 0.2.69, and there is only one place in the editor that builds the On tap row. So the page you get is the script from 0.2.66 or older, while the add-on page says 0.2.69. That points at the add-on's container, not at your setup. To find where it goes wrong:

  1. Settings → Add-ons → ESP Screen Manager → Info: does it say the installed version is 0.2.69, or is there also an Update button? A screenshot of that page would help.
  2. On that page press Rebuild (add-ons built on your machine have it next to Restart). Wait for the build to finish, then open ESP Screens again.
  3. If the row is still the same: with ESP Screens open press F12 → Network, reload the page, click the line app.js and tell me the ?v= part of its address. 0.2.68 and 0.2.69 serve ?v=a43c7f49d330, 0.2.67 ?v=311e8241480e, 0.2.66 ?v=63e1b625de00. The first lines of the add-on's Log tab would help too.

I'll also make ESP Screens show its own version on the page, so this check is a glance next time.
