Do you think it would be possible to show a camera preview on the tile as an option? Maybe add a setting to refresh every X seconds or minutes. Espcontrol has this feature but is currently lacking all the fancy quality of life stuff that espscreen has to offer.
@govido thanks for the idea, this was a good one. It is live in 0.2.91 with firmware 0.2.77: set a camera tile to Display → Live picture and pick 15 or 30 s. The camera tiles of one page share a single download, so more tiles cost the screen nothing extra. Guition only (the CYD has no memory for pictures). Could you give it a try and tell me how it looks on your screen?

Could an option be added to use the full card for the image instead of just the icon? Especially for smaller screens this would make it more glanceable.

This might be a great opertunity to just replace it with "Large Video" ;)
Option to zoom in to fill the tile or show the entire picture and show or hide the camera name, that would make it perfect. :)
On a techincal level, could the camera picture resolution be reduced to update the live view faster?
@govido thanks, great suggestions, and good catch on the bug. All of it comes in 0.3.8 with firmware 0.3.3. That release is going through its last tests now and will be out later today:
The picture fills the tile. Set a camera tile to Display → Live picture and make it 1×2 or 2×2: the live picture now uses the whole card, with the camera's name at the bottom.
Fill or whole picture. In the tile's settings, Picture has Fill the tile (cut to the card, the default) and Whole picture (all of it, with black bars).
Name or nothing.On the picture has Name (the default) and Nothing, for just the camera.
While it loads the card shows the same spinner a busy tile has, so a page with a camera never looks empty.
The Large value bug. A camera tile no longer offers Large value. A camera's state ("Idle") made no sense as a large value, and saving it gave the error you saw.
On "Large Video": the screens show still pictures, not video, so the tile stays a picture that refreshes every 15 or 30 seconds while the page is on screen. A tap still opens the camera full screen.
On a lower resolution: that would not make it faster. The add-on already prepares every picture at exactly the size of the tile, pixel for pixel, so the screen never gets more pixels than it shows. What we did make smaller is the file: pictures now go to the screen in 8-bit colour, a third of the bytes, at about the quality the screen itself can show. On the 4-inch Guition a picture that fills a 2×2 tile now loads in well under a second, and the screen keeps answering touches while it does. What still sets the pace is the refresh you choose and how long your camera takes to hand Home Assistant a snapshot.

Can you also add a 1x1 tile that shows the full picture? Right now there is no way to put to 16:9 camera views side by side on a 6 tile Guition.
Also the fullscreen cameras show only a single camera name and a tiny icon, not a fullscreen camera picture.
I think for full page tile the big picture would make the most sense.
If the tile loads even faster with the optimization, could we also increase the update times when using 1x1 or 2x2 small previews?
@govido great to see it on your screen, thanks for the photo. Everything you asked for here is in 0.3.13 (screen firmware 0.3.7), which goes live in the coming hours:
Live picture on every size. Display → Live picture now fills the whole tile on a single tile, a double-width tile and a tile over the whole page too, not only 1×2 and 2×2. The small square in the icon's place is gone, so two 16:9 cameras fit side by side on the 4-inch Guition.
Picture and On the picture (fill the tile or the whole picture, name or nothing) work on every size.
Faster refresh. Refresh adds every 5 and every 10 seconds, next to 15 and 30.
A small fix on the way. A page whose live cameras all refresh every 30 seconds loaded them every 15 seconds; it now keeps to 30.
Update the add-on first, then the screen. With older firmware a single, double-width or full-page tile keeps the small square.
