Storyboard for tiles: touch events, actions and parameters in the editor
Every tile has two separate things: what it shows and what it does. Today the tile's type decides most of what it does. A hold always opens the tile's card, a tap cannot open a page, and "Perform action" only reaches actions of the tile's own entity.
I would like a storyboard per tile: a small table in the editor's inspector, one row per event.
| Event | Action | Parameters |
|---|---|---|
| Tap | Toggle | |
| Hold | Open page | Page 3 |
| Press | Nothing | |
| Release | Nothing |
Events
- Tap, hold, press and release.
- A hold is a press longer than a set time, 1000 ms by default, adjustable per tile. A shorter press counts as a tap, so no touch gets lost.
Actions
- Open a page, open the card, show the history, toggle, run any Home Assistant action, or nothing.
Parameters
- Open a page: which page.
- Show the history: which entity, how many hours.
- Home Assistant action: any target entity, not only the tile's own, and its fields.
- Values of the tile, such as its entity, its state, the screen and the event, usable in those fields, so one script can serve many tiles.
Examples
- Solar tile: tap opens the page with the inverters, hold shows 24 hours of history.
- Light switch: tap switches, hold opens its details or a settings page.
- Room temperature: tap opens the thermostat, hold shows the history.
- Scene key: tap runs script.set_room with room: bedroom and level: 30.
Why in the core
- It works the same on every tile, also on plugin tiles, which today only get on_tap, so no plugin has to build this on its own.
- Nothing changes for existing tiles: every row starts with what the tile does today, and the table can stay under an "advanced" section, so the simple editor stays simple.
