Configurable Background

ComputerZOOSuggested this wish ·

Hello, it would be nice to be able to set the color of the page background and textcolor. The cherry on top of the cake will be an own background image to be set.

Hey, thanks for the comment! I’ve actually thought about this quite a bit.

For me it’s a slightly tricky one, because giving full control over background colours can also make it very easy to create screens that don’t look that great. I really like the minimal aesthetic the app has now in both light and dark mode, and I do feel a bit protective of that. I’m a designer myself as well, so keeping that visual consistency is something I care about.

So just to be transparent, this isn’t very high on my list at the moment and it might not end up being added.

That said, I’m curious how you’d actually want to use it. Is there a specific use case you have in mind, or is it mostly about being able to make the app feel a bit more personal?

Hi, the contrast of my CYDs is not that great and make it difficult to read the text in the title-section in certain viewing angles (light grey background with darker grey text). Background image was just an idea, because right now I’m using Adrian Kühlewinds ESPHome Version (https://github.com/akuehlewind/ESPHome-touch-display-mount) with his descent background image.

Thanks @ComputerZOO! This is better suited to a discussion than an issue, so I moved it here: https://github.com/MaxGramser/homeassistant_espscreen/discussions/110

Please continue the conversation there. I'm closing this issue to keep the tracker for bugs and concrete board requests.

Got a screen running? Tell others which board you have and what works on the Tessera website. It helps everyone pick a screen that works.

Like my work? Consider buying me a coffee, much appreciated!

Why not some kind of lightweight theming? Colorscheme, background image and font

Edit: If the screen elements are LVGL widgets then a simple gradient function for the background colors would be nice.
