Support for Waveshare-ESP32-S3-Touch-LCD-3.5B-C
Proposed board support: Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-LCD-3.5B-C
I have tested Tessera on a physical Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-LCD-3.5B-C (320×480 portrait, ESP32-S3, AXS15231B LCD and touch). This is not the existing waveshare35 hardware (ST7796 / FT6336).
Using the existing waveshare35 profile with a local Override YAML, Tessera successfully displays its UI, navigates between two pages by touch, connects to Home Assistant, and controls a real HA switch (switch.grillplats_plug). This was also tested from a USB power bank.
Working hardware configuration:
- LCD:
mipi_spimodelWAVESHARE-ESP32-S3-TOUCH-LCD-3.5B - Bus: quad SPI, CLK GPIO5, DATA GPIO1/GPIO2/GPIO3/GPIO4
- Backlight: LEDC PWM GPIO6 (already correct in
waveshare35) - Touch:
axs15231, I²C SDA GPIO8, SCL GPIO7 (same I²C pins as existingwaveshare35) - LVGL:
full_refresh: trueandbuffer_size: 100%are essential. Without them the bottom page selector was visible but most of the display showed colour noise.
The following is the override reconstructed from the successful experiments; it should be compared with the actual saved override before being attached as a definitive reproduction:
spi:
id: lcd
type: quad
clk_pin: GPIO5
mosi_pin: !remove
miso_pin: !remove
data_pins: [GPIO1, GPIO2, GPIO3, GPIO4]
display:
- id: !extend my_display
model: WAVESHARE-ESP32-S3-TOUCH-LCD-3.5B
dc_pin: !remove
cs_pin: !remove
reset_pin: !remove
color_order: !remove
invert_colors: !remove
spi_mode: 0
touchscreen:
- id: !extend ts_touch
platform: axs15231
i2c_id: touch_bus
display: my_display
lvgl:
full_refresh: true
buffer_size: 100%
This would be a useful dedicated board profile instead of requiring users to select incompatible waveshare35 hardware and apply an override. I can provide further testing on the physical device, including firmware updates, touch, Home Assistant actions, and weather/media tiles.
Suggested upstream workflow: request the board in Tessera's New boards wishlist category, then prepare a pull request linked to that request, following docs/ADDING_A_BOARD.md.
