Not forgotten! The ESP32-S3-Touch-LCD-7B is in ESP Screen Manager 0.4.14 as an experimental board.

Update the add-on, then choose Waveshare · 7 inch with ESP32-S3-Touch-LCD-7B under New screen. It gets four by four tiles lying down and two by seven standing up, and its backlight dims, so brightness, standby and night mode are all there.

I don't have this board myself, so it has only been built and rendered here, never seen on real glass. The pins and panel timings follow Waveshare's pin table and demo, and the backlight uses ESPHome's own component for the board's CH32V003 expander. docs/WAVESHARE7B.md has the details.

If you try it, could you let me know:

  1. Whether the picture is stable and the colours are right, also after a cold start (unplug and plug back in).
  2. Whether taps land where your finger is, near each corner and on a slider.
  3. Whether brightness, standby and waking up by touch work a few times in a row, without a restart.
  4. The Heap Free value of the screen in Home Assistant with a full page of tiles.

A photo of the screen and a log from the first boot help a lot if something looks off. Please leave Wi-Fi passwords and API/OTA keys out of the log.

Thanks for trying it, this is the first time this board config has run on a real 7B!

A black screen on its own could be the display settings, but together with no connection to Home Assistant it looks like the board doesn't finish starting up: it either restarts in a loop or hangs during start, before Wi-Fi comes up. The screen in ESP Screens can't be opened because it never reached Home Assistant, so that part should sort itself out once the board runs.

To find where it stops, could you tell me:

  1. The boot log over USB. Plug the board into your computer, open ESPHome Web, click Connect, pick the port and then Logs. Press the board's reset button (or unplug it and plug it back in) and copy everything from the first lines on. Please leave out Wi-Fi passwords and API/OTA keys.
  2. Is the backlight on? Is the glass black but faintly lit, or completely dark?
  3. How did you flash it? Over USB from the add-on, or with the downloaded firmware in ESPHome Web?
  4. Does the board show up on your network? For example in your router's device list, or as a discovered device in Home Assistant under Settings > Devices & services.
  5. Which board revision? A photo of the back of the board, or the version printed on it, helps too.

With the log I can see whether it crashes, restarts or waits on the display or the touch chip, and fix the board file from there.

hi, just flashed the firmware and it works. colors look okey. tapping works as expected where do I find the heap free value?

Great news, thanks! That's the first 7B confirmed on real glass.

Heap Free is a sensor of the screen itself. In Home Assistant go to Settings > Devices & services > ESPHome, open your screen's device and look under Diagnostic. Please read it with a full page of tiles on the screen, after it has run for a few minutes.

Since the first try stayed black: do you know what was different this time? A different flash route or a cold start would already help me.

If you have a moment, these would complete the picture:

  1. Taps near each of the four corners and dragging a slider.
  2. Brightness across its range, then standby and waking up by touch, a few times in a row without a restart.
  3. A cold start: unplug it, plug it back in, and check the picture is still stable.
