Drag and Drop Screens to Reorder them

chrisrock1984Suggested this wish ·

hi,

it would be very intuitive to just be able to drag and drop the screens to re-order them like it is possible in home assistance.

thank you!!!

Done, this is in ESP Screens 0.2.121.

Every page in the editor has a handle now: the label above it, with the same grip the rows of the top bar have. Drag it left or right and the row reorders under your hand, so the page lands exactly where you saw it, the way Home Assistant reorders its views. A drop away from the row changes nothing. On a phone, hold the label for a moment before you drag; without that hold the row of pages still scrolls sideways as before. The left and right arrow keys move a page one place along while its label has focus.

Everything that belongs to the page comes along: the tiles keep their own cells (empty cells and double-width or full-page tiles included), the page's own title travels with it, and a Go to page tile keeps opening the page it means, under that page's new number, so the way through a screen still works after a reorder.

One thing worth knowing: page 1 always shows the screen's own title. A page that carries a title of its own and lands on page 1 lets that title go. The message says so and offers Undo.

No new firmware for this, the screens stay on 0.2.99. Update the add-on in Home Assistant and reload ESP Screens.

Thanks for the suggestion.

i have 3 pages. moving between 2 and 3 the name keeps as expected. moving between 1 and 2 or 3 changes the name of the page to the name of the first page. I hope you understand this ;-)

the delete page moves with the page it is shown -> suggestion is that each page shall have a delete page

@chrisrock1984 thank you, both of these were spot on, and both are in 0.2.123, out now.

A page keeps its name. You described it exactly: between pages 2 and 3 the name stays, between 1 and anything else it does not. Page 1 was the odd one out. It always said the screen's own title, so a page that landed there had to let its own name go, and a page that moved away from the first place left its name behind for whoever slid into that spot, without saying a word. That rule was mine alone: the screens have been able to give every page a name of its own since firmware 0.2.90, so it is gone. A title belongs to its page now and travels with it wherever it lands, page 1 included, and reordering the row costs nothing.

The bar of page 1 therefore asks two things instead of one: the Screen title, which every page without a name of its own shows, and the Title above page 1. A screen with one page still asks for one name, as before.

Every page has Remove page. It stands beside the tile count of each page now, not only under an empty one, so you can take a page out of the middle without emptying it first. The page leaves with the tiles in its cells and with the Go to page tiles that led to it, so nothing is left opening a page nobody has. The pages after it move up with their titles, and the message says how many tiles went, with Undo beside it.

To get it: update ESP Screen Manager in Home Assistant. There is no new firmware for this one, your screens stay on 0.2.100.

Thanks again for trying it the same afternoon and for writing down exactly what you saw. Three pages, which move kept the name and which did not: that is what made it quick to find.
