Pair with build server

michamichamichaSuggested this wish ·

As I understand from the Dockerfile is that it ships its own standalone instance of ESPHome. However on my Raspberry PI 4 with 4GB memory it's taking forever to complete a build. That's why I setup the ESP Home Builder in Home Assistant to use a Paired build server.

Any chance you can add the functionality to do the same here? More information: https://github.com/esphome/device-builder#send-builds-to-another-dashboard

Good news: you can already do this.

ESP Screens keeps each screen's YAML file in the same ESPHome folder that ESPHome Device Builder uses (/homeassistant/esphome). Your screens show up in the Device Builder like any other device. When you build from there, the build goes to your paired build server.

  1. Set up the screen and its tiles in ESP Screens as usual.
  2. Open ESPHome Device Builder and find the screen in the list.
  3. Click Install. The build runs on your build server, and the Device Builder installs the finished firmware on the screen over Wi-Fi.

Changing tiles and layouts in ESP Screens doesn't need a new build, so you only need the Device Builder for the first install and for firmware updates.
