Add Support for Hebrew Fonts and RTL (BiDi) Text
Hi Max and the team,
First of all, thank you for the amazing work on Tessera (homeassistant_espscreen)! The drag-and-drop approach is brilliant and makes setting up these screens incredibly easy.
I would like to request adding support for Hebrew text. Currently, since the project only supports LTR European languages, Hebrew entity names and statuses pulled from Home Assistant either don't render (showing missing character boxes) or render backwards.
Since the project is built on top of ESPHome and LVGL, the underlying libraries already support this. To make Hebrew work, the system would need:
- Font Support: Including a font that covers the Hebrew Unicode block (0x0590β0x05FF), such as Google's "Rubik", "Assistant", or "Heebo".
- BiDi Support: Enabling the
LV_USE_BIDIflag in the underlying LVGL configuration so it can properly handle Right-to-Left (RTL) and mixed text rendering.
Adding this would be a game-changer for the Israeli / Hebrew-speaking Home Assistant community.
I would be more than happy to help test this feature on my screens if you decide to implement it.
Thank you for your time and for this great project!
Kind regards
Isaac
